This winter season just needs to go away. This pretty much sums it up for me, too.

While we have certainly enjoyed having our new puppy around over the past couple of months, I must honestly say that he is about the only thing I’ve truly enjoyed during this extremely bi-polar winter weather season. The temperature has bounced from spring/summer temps to deep winter weather all too often this season, more than normal to my recollection. Just this past weekend, it was 85 degrees on Saturday afternoon. About twelve hours later, it was 19 degrees and later was a whopping 9 degrees with wind chills below zero.
That. Is. Ridiculous.
The only redeeming part of all of this crazy weather has been some truly amazing sunrises and sunsets. I took this photo recently one morning in our backyard, and I did not edit it in any way, except to downsize it and add the frame. It was just an amazing sight, and the gorgeous colors stretched all over the eastern sky.
What has made this particular winter season so hard is the big swings in our weather in very short time periods, often less than 24 hours. We enjoy our days of warm weather for a day or two, and we begin to think that winter is just about done, only to get blasted by the frigid cold once again that lingers on for a while. And while that pattern is really not too unusual for our area in the winter, these huge swings in temperature are just more extreme than normal this year, I think. And to top it off, we really have not had any moisture to speak of to help offset our continuing drought. Sigh.
I know that I will be “eating my words” as the summer heat returns later this year, but for now, I must say that I am ready for winter to just be done for this year.
But even more than that, I am ready for my normal life to return again. I’ve had quite the time with my mother while she has been in rehab over the past few weeks, and it has been anything but easy for both my mother and for me. Thankfully, she is slowly starting to level out in several respects, but it has definitely taken a toll on me. So, for that reason, I decided over the weekend that I need to start getting back to a more normal routine again, as my own “house” needs attention in many ways, both physically and emotionally. I’m glad that I have been able to be there for her over the past few weeks, but it’s now time to cut back on visits a bit and get my own life back in order.
Hopefully, hubby and I will be able to take a long weekend trip in the RV sometime in March, but we will definitely just have to see how things go with both my mother and this crazy, crazy weather over the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’m getting my housework caught up, and we are also going to paint the walls in the kitchen of the RV. There really is not much wall space in the kitchen anyway, and we are going to install a pretty copper backsplash over part of it, too. Hopefully that little project will be done in the next few days. Here is a picture of the one we purchased.
We are also getting a new tree for our backyard, hopefully later this week. Getting a new tree is no small or cheap thing here, and I am really looking forward to getting it. It will have to be brought in and lifted over our back fence with a crane, which should be quite a sight to see!
I’ve missed the opportunity to visit my fellow bloggers here over the past couple of weeks and hope to find time to do that very soon.

I have to agree with you on this one, D. I actually do like winter and snow, but since having snow on the ground steady since November, I’m ready for spring!!

Perhaps if we had actually received a little more rain or snow, it might have been a bit easier to take. But, since that really did not happen to any extent, it has just made for a long, cold and dry season this year. I’m almost afraid to see what spring is going to have in store for us as far as dust storms.

Our winter hasn’t been that bad but we are getting our share of rains now! The comment about painting the Kitchen in the RV got me thinking. It’s not very often you see painted walls in an RV — and I don’t really know why. I’m not in a big hurry to paint, mind you, the idea of downsizing was appealing in part because decorating is much easier in a small space and all of ours has some kind of wall treatment on it.
Hoping you get out to enjoy some decent RV weather soon.

We had the same wallpaper in the kitchen area and the bathroom, and while it looked just fine in the bathroom, to me, it has always looked a little out of place in the kitchen. The RV is mostly earth tones throughout, but the wallpaper had some other colors in it that just bugged me in the kitchen area. The new backsplash will now be the most prominent feature on the rear kitchen wall, and I’m looking for a nice decal to put on the open area of the adjacent wall. I only discovered all the great wall decals recently online (Amazon), and it will be a perfect solution if I can find one the right size for that space, which should not be too hard to do. It will just peel off and will not damage the wall surface, so we can change it out anytime. Those two areas constitute most of the wall surface area in the kitchen, and the lighter color paint has already brightened that work area, which is something else I wanted. It took about three coats of paint, but it looks nice and still has a bit of the vertical texture of the wallpaper underneath. We don’t plan to paint anywhere else, as we also have the wall treatments, but I’m glad we did changed the kitchen to this brighter look. Will try to remember to post a picture once we get it all finished.

I’ll have to go look at the wall decals … interesting idea.
I guess I’m not really in a mood at the moment to make changes to the RV on that level. We put a bunch of money into new flooring and a new sofa and we ponder from time to time whether to do anything about the window treatments. But so far no decisions.
I’m sure it will look lovely, no matter what you do. I’ve just been wondering if there is some reason WHY one doesn’t usually see paint. Are wallpapers more durable than paint? Or is the issue of humidity an issue? I have no idea… just pondering.

I wouldn’t paint anymore in our RV, as painting more areas might make it feel smaller inside. I would definitely check on humidity issues if that was an issue, too. That is not something we have to worry about here. I have the opposite issue of keeping our wood cabinet doors oiled enough to keep them from drying out. 😦

I like the teapot! Remember that little ditty, “I’m a little teapot, short and stout, here is my handle, here is my spout…” ???
My own personal preference would be something more symmetrical — but that’s just me. In my brain I’d be always wanting to look in the direction of the spout — as if it were a finger pointing at something. Even here in Journey — When I’m sitting in certain places I get a reflection off the work center 40 feet away and it keeps pulling my eye in that direction.
(but then I’m extremely’visual’)
You really have me wondering why so few RV’s have painted surfaces. I wonder if it’s just a quicker install and forgiving of minor factory mistakes…..
Isn’t it fun to think and plan about what you want to do. Sometimes it’s the planning more than the ultimate living-in that I enjoy. Go figure.

Thankfully, we also have spring here once again, but along with some hefty winds and a few dust storms at times. Hopefully they will not be around for too much longer. Enjoy your spring!
