Thanksgiving Lunch Lists

This is the week to make the lists and check them twice – the Thanksgiving lunch list and the grocery shopping list to go with it.  I recently discovered the free Keep app, and it has been such a blessing to keep all of my food lists on it.  The lists sync automatically on my phone, my tablet and my laptop, and I am loving it.  Sometimes technology is a truly great thing to help out with the little things.

Thanksgiving Lunch List
Our Thanksgiving meal lineup this year!

While I normally purchase most of our groceries at the club store these days, I will no doubt purchase some things at our local grocery store for Thanksgiving, too.  The Thanksgiving week sale ad just came out, so it is time to look over the shopping list one last time and schedule a trip to the grocery store at a time that is not as crowded.  I’ve stood in too many ridiculously long lines at the grocery store on the Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving, sometimes to just purchase one item that I forgot on a previous trip.  I’m so done with that nonsense now, if at all possible, and working carefully on the shopping list in advance has helped to prevent such unneeded stress.

I intentionally planned leftovers from lunch for our camping trip and to send home with others for a second meal.  While the lineup is not low-carb by any stretch, I will try to only partake of very small portions of the items that are not “legal” for me.  I’m still not ready to risk sabotaging my diet too much at this point, after working so hard to lose the weight this past year.

So far this week, I’ve finalized the lunch list, and I am finalizing the shopping list.  I’ve also made good progress on house cleaning, as there will be little time for that next week as I prepare our meal and get things ready to leave in the RV later on Thanksgiving Day.  I also made the pie crusts and put them in the freezer.  I used Pioneer Woman’s “Perfect Pie Crust” recipe this time because it is easy to make, makes two at once, tastes great and freezes quite well.  Making traditional pie crusts is not one of my best talents, to be sure, and this recipe is a very simple one.  It can also be found in her holiday cookbook, too.

With both Thanksgiving and our next RV trip coming right up, things are going to be pretty hectic here until early December.  We also have both movie and play tickets that I am excited about, as well as an evening out with two of my best friends.  I will continue to post over at Animal Wonder for the rest of this month to meet the blogging goal there, but I doubt that I will be back here to post until after our trip, unless I somehow get ahead of schedule.  I hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving!

    1. Yes, tis the season to eat like crazy again! 🙂 I would love to just have a small meal this year, but I need to have a nice, traditional meal for my mom, since we will not be here with her on Christmas Day this year. We are headed to Abilene State Park (which should be called Buffalo Gap State Park because it is at Buffalo Gap, not Abilene). We have not been back there in over a year, and it is one of our favorite parks to visit. It is a busy park for RV travelers because it is not too terribly far from major routes through the state in both directions, I-20 (east/west) and Hwy 84 (north/south). Always have to make reservations there pretty far in advance, which I remembered to do this year. Hope you enjoy your holiday on the coast! Tried to leave a comment on your post yesterday but couldn’t see where to do that? Glad you enjoyed S Llano River. We loved it there on our brief stop-over, especially the beautiful trees there.

      1. We really enjoyed S. Llano SP also but we need to stay connected. Thanks for the recommendations on other state parks. I still have 3 coupons to use up.
WordPress’ new posting platform messed me up and I think I have it fixed so I can receive comments now 😉

        1. Staying connected 100% of the time in the state parks may be an issue. I can tell you that AT&T is also the only carrier that services Garner SP, too. We bought a non-contract AT&T phone to use when we went there for a week last year and had good luck with it, even at our campsite on the river.

    1. I’m not too proud to admit that I need the lists these days, for sure. The last time I stood in a 30 minute line for just one last thing at the grocery store made a believer out of me where lists are concerned. 😉

  1. OH dear…. You ARE organized, aren’t you!

I was interested in your comments about parks only being serviced by AT&T. We’ve yet to find a park that has good coverage by other carriers that doesn’t also have good Verizon coverage — but we have a lot of experience to experience yet. Have to start looking ahead at WIFI options more carefully.

    1. When we visited Garner in April of last year, we had younger nieces and nephews with us. We always want to have a reasonable phone connection when kids go along, especially when their mom is not along with us. We called ahead of time and were told that att was the only call carrier in the area. That is why I know about that particular park. If you need to be connected and think about visiting a state park, definitely do your homework ahead of time. Most we visit have little to no connection. Some may have a little WiFi, but our experience is that it is no very reliable and usually slow. We go to get away from cell phones ringing most of the time. Different perspective, I guess. If we don’t need signal, we ride to to closest town.

      1. WE spend virtually no time on the phone — and all our time on the InterWebs.

We’ll make a few mistakes, I’m sure, and we’ll learn from them. 🙂
