I saw this yesterday on Twitter. It pretty much sums things up here right now.
On Monday afternoon, it was 81 degrees at our house.
By early Wednesday morning, it was a whopping 19 degrees with a chill factor of *7* degrees.
To say it is cold is just the most epic understatement for us right now, especially since it is not quite mid-November! Last year on November 21, I documented our first big cold front as a drop of about 50 degrees, which was impressive, for sure. One of our local weather forecasters said that this is cold front is one of the most powerful early cold fronts to hit our area in many years/decades, and I totally agree, having lived here all of my life. We even had an unexpected dusting of snow early on Thursday morning to keep things interesting, and the temperature has now been below freezing for almost three straight days.
I. Am. Frozen!!! I don’t know if it is the fact that I’ve lost about 40 pounds since this time last year or what, but goodness gracious, I am not dealing with this cold as well as I did in previous years.
My flip-flops are gone. Put away. Out of sight. Bye bye.
I’m wearing my Uggs all day every day for as long as humanly possible.
We are apparently destined to have yet another big cold front blow in sometime on Saturday, and we may even get an inch of snow this time. I’m beginning to wonder about our next camping trip that is planned for Thanksgiving weekend, which is only two weeks away. Will the weather warm up a bit by then or will the deep freeze continue even longer? I’m not thrilled at the prospect of going out in the RV in 7 degree chill factor weather. At. All. In fact, I think I can safely say that if the weather doesn’t improve by then, we will be sitting at home this Thanksgiving weekend instead of making our usual trek in the RV for a quick getaway.
Tis’ the season! Welcome back, Winter. Please be kind to us this year, ok?

Wow! You ARE frozen! You’re colder than we are here in the Northeast. We got a dusting of snow last night but temps in the high 20’s this morning. Stay warm!!

The chill factor and humidity is what’s making this a little more uncomfortable, I think. At least the chill factor is up to 12 this morning! 🙂

I hope the weather doesn’t mess up your trip, but I wouldn’t go at those temps, either! Congrats on the 40 lbs! That is definitely a factor. My cousin had gastric-bypass surgery a few years ago, and for the first time in her life, she learned what it meant to feel cold.

We are still hopeful that the weather will cooperate for our little getaway, too. I definitely think the weight loss has changed my ability to cope with this colder weather, at least for now with the big temperature change that came so quickly. It’s still such a blessing, though. Just had to poke a little fun at the situation, you know. 😉 Have a great weekend!

I only wish that photo of the UGGS was a photo of a cuppa hot chocolate — which is sort of how it looked when only the top portion of the page displayed on my screen and I didn’t see the bottom of the shoes!
If there is ANY consolation it’s that you’re at home where you have easy access to all your ‘stuff’ and finding warmer things to wear is not all that difficult.
We’re a little warmer than you for a change — not rubbing it in, merely making an observation which has seldom been true. Last winter we spend on the OR Coast and they had the coldest winter there in 3 decades, this year we are heading towards S. Tex and they are forecasting colder than normal even as far as that — We went RV’ing to get away from the cold and while we have had milder weather than Milwaukee we haven’t yet found the HEAT!
All I can think of is to cuddle up with your pooches — you know there is intelligence behind the phrase a “Three Dog Night” 🙂 And, with a little luck the temps will rise again (someday. :-\ )

You will love it on the coast, I’m sure. The weather can abruptly change in just about any season in this state, so you will no doubt see a little of everything while you’re here, even along the coast but perhaps not quite as much where you are headed. That’s one reason I gave the link out to Texas Storm Chasers. They do a really good job with the longer term forecasts, much better than our local weather guys, which helps us to better plan trips in the RV. Still waiting word on what Thanksgiving weekend is going to bring our way. Just so grateful that I’ve had a warm and comfy home during this cold blast. It may actually get in the high 60’s or lower 70’s for a few hours today before we get blasted once again, too. Such is life in Texas! haha
It’s so fun to see almost every RV blogger that I follow headed for south Texas or already there this week. I never realized just how many come here for the winter each year until this year. I will certainly enjoy reading about everyone’s escapaes, too. I must admit that I’m sad that many will leave as soon as the weather starts to warm up, especially before the amazing wildflowers fill the highways in April and early May. Spring and fall months in Texas are the absolute best months to be here.

Now that we are just about 2 weeks away from arriving in San Benito I’m really getting excited.
Without exaggeration there WERE times last winter where we were warmer on the OR Coast than in Brownsville TX! I”m sure it will happen again this year — OR is supposed to be warmer than usual, in contrast to much of the rest of the country.
Peg didn’t want to be a bother to her TX branch of the family so we are spending turkey day week in Matagorda at the M. Bay Nature Park. — a bit OPEN for a campground — that will be interesting, but we’ll be happy there I’m sure.
We are hoping to meet up with Ingrid & Huz in Galveston. The flight to warmth has commenced for sure. We have no plans past 3/31. We talked about possibly spending May in San Diego (while still on their low season) but if we don’t do that we haven’t any rush to get anywhere — the biggest factor might be heat. So, we’ll see. I know there’s a lavender festival in Blanco, and I know there’s a Bluebell festival somewhere too. We’ll just see what we get up to. We’ll stop and pick up a TX travel guide on our way into the state (a newer one than we have) and once we’re there we’ll plan out an easy going plan of attack. What with traveling I tend not to make plans for what to do when there until we GET there — because we are doing whatever we are doing when we are parked — no interest in researching for some future time unless I have to.
